Future Proof Your Day w/ Matilda On Video

Meet Matilda. Or Matilda On Video as she goes by on YouTube and Instagram. An Aussie beauty content creator sharing flat-lay reviews on YouTube and Instagram. She's got a thing for cream blush, cats, colour-coordinated bookshelves and collecting old cameras.

So, what’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Wish I’d gone to bed earlier (a night owl’s constant struggle), then snuggle my Exotic Shorthair cat Mabel who is still snoozing on the pillow next to me.

What does your AM skincare routine look like?
My morning skincare is very minimal. I splash my face with cold water, spritz my skin with face mist (Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist is delightful), massage in a light gel-cream moisturiser (BY TERRY’s Global Face Cream is glowy skin in a glass pot) or a heavier cream in winter (Go-To Very Useful Face Cream is truly very useful), then finish with my all-time favourite SPF, Ultra Violette Supreme Screen. She can’t be topped, and my friends love/hate me for getting them hooked too.

What’s your go-to breakfast at the moment?
Move over avo toast, there’s a new berry smoothie in town. Frozen raspberries, blueberries, milk, Greek yoghurt, done. Delicious.

How do you remember to reapply throughout the day?
I always keep a travel-sized Extreme Screen and mini Supreme Screen in my handbag. If you go anywhere with me, you’ll soon receive an offer for an SPF 50 top up.

Any great SPF hacks?
Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after applying sunscreen before you start your makeup. If you’re naturally watery-eyed (I look like I’m continually moved to tears on any sunny day), you don’t want any sunscreen sneaking up too high when you apply under-eye concealer.

What’s the biggest myth you’ve heard about sunscreen?
‘Reef safe’ misinformation always pops up a lot, as well as the demonisation of chemical sunscreen formulas in general. I’m so grateful for the work Ultra Violette does dispelling myths in those areas.

Best beauty tip you’ve ever heard—go.
Blush as eyeshadow! I’m mad about multitasking makeup and easy monochrome looks, so swiping a bit of your blush colour across your eyelids and up towards your brow bone is a simple trick to tie a look together.

Current favourite new beauty find and a rediscovered favourite?
Rare Beauty’s Liquid Eyeshadow formula is fantastic – the romantic pastel shade range recently launched at Sephora Australia at last. Then there’s often an old Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colour in a rosy neutral or browny red rolling around at the bottom of my bag. I love the sheer matte, blotted look straight from the bullet.

How would you describe your feelings about Ultra Violette in 3 words?
Ab. solutely. Obsessed.

What three things were you grateful for this morning?
Voice notes to keep in touch with friends far from home, spring creeping closer in Australia, and my vaccine appointment next week!

Always read the label. Follow the directions for use. Avoid prolonged high-risk sun exposure. Wear a hat, protective clothing and sunglasses when exposed to the sun. Re-apply frequently.
